shed and cows

This is the stunning location of that shed I wanted to capture on THAT Sunday. I was too late to capture the morning light on this side :(   but now know for next time

Those bovine buddies added so much more interest to the shots and gave the shed perspective and meaning.

See what I mean by my saying I could sort of 'pose' them where I wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!  How cool is that!!

pobke lane church

This is what I was photographing on THAT Sunday when the police car pulled up. This is the location of THAT tree the police officer pointed out.

lovely old building!

having fun with a bunch of bovines

I went on location to shoot a rusty iron shed in gorgeous setting when these guys came up so say g'day. They were so curious and just followed me around. I could sort of position them where I wanted them and I could call them into the shed doorway for a shot as well.

As a result, I hardly worried about the shed, the cows were much more fun. Especially number 1, 4 and 6.

Taken on THAT Sunday.

new season round bales

found these on that memorable Sunday.
back story here.

You usually need to be quick to find these out in the paddock. Some farmer's leave the hay in the paddock for ages after bailing, but most don't, so you just gotta be quick capture them if you see them.
There are fewer and fewer round bales in our area each year.

sentinal

This is the tree the very kind Police Officer pointed out to me that he thought would be a good photography subject.
Back story Here.
:O)

great timing to have those two birds fly into the shot :O)

wizard of oz dance concert

The practising at home, the rehearsals at school and after school all culminated into 'The Wizard of Oz' concert last Friday night.

There was The Wizard section plus 2 other dances and 2 finales that the kids all had to dance to.

And dance they did. They had so much fun and were all so excited both backstage, on stage and afterwards.

Annie LOVED it. Sean has been booging around the house since and he wants to dance next year. Miss J is having a boys class next year so that is perfect timing.

I took the camera in (of course) and took a few shots (lol, a lot) and video'd a bit too.

Images are available for purchase. Inbox me, comment, ring me, email me or just plain ol' talk to me and I'll let you know the details.

These are some of  Annie........ there is an album called Dance Concert 2011 - Cummins Troupe on my Tiff Firth Photography page Facebook. All images there have been posted with individual or parent permission. There are more that I'm unable to share as yet, (waiting for the ok's to do so). If your Dancer was on stage, there's a fair chance I may have a photo of her/him.

cheers.

 super excited

This in one of our neighbours reaping their canola. The light was in the right spot, the lines of windrowed canola undulated away over the hill, and the dust of harvest wafted straight behind the machine. Perfect.

While I was on the ladder taking the shots of the header, this little rascal slithered by. About 3 metres away. I kept a good eye on which way he went to make sure I didn't accidently find him when I finished up.

11.11.11 @ 11am

This is what I was doing @ 11am on the 11.11.11

On the Postie bike delivering mail. At the other end of town was the gathering of people at the Garden of Remberance to respect the importance of this day. The amount of people gathered in our small rural town of Cummins was fantastic. It actually made me suck my breath in.

Taken for ABC Open

shoe tree

I wondered if anyone has noticed how much our shoe tree has grown in the last 2 years.  I was driving past it a couple of weeks ago and noticed that someone had slashed the ropes the shoes were tied to and they were all scattered on the ground. I was a bit upset by this, but not enough to do something about it.

Well, someone DID do something about it. All the shoes have been retied on the branches with a new system of attachment to spread them out. It looks so much better now, and now you can really see how many shoes are there.

This is the shoe tree on the 6th November 2011  (taken with Apple i4s)

And this was the same tree on the 27th January 2010. (taken with Canon 50D)

iphone photos..... approaching storm

I am more than amazed what the nifty camera in the new iphone 4s can capture.

This is two images merged together.

and this one is 5 images stitched together.

wowsers.  seriously good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now compare the top one with this one taken with the 5d MkII.

Different location and focus is a bit sharper with this one, but the depth of the image in the two is comparable. How cool is that!!!!!

blowing in the wind

A couple of years ago I took my kids up to the top of the world in our area. When you are on the summit of North Block you have a 360 degree view to every horizon. So it is just like being on top of the world. Kylie met us up there and we had a picnic lunch, bubble blowing and just all round good fun.

I made the kite and the tail has plastic twistie ties that I cut to shape.

Thanks to Kylie for allowing me to post the LO. mwah. xx

3 generations.

Headed down to the Roseview Gardens last week for a family shoot.

The weather was sweet, the light soft and not a breath of breeze.

I took my various Christmas hats as well  :O)

 love the 'damaged' vintage feel!!!

awesome clouds

Late this arvo the awesome clouds rolled in. This shot was taken over our wheat crop looking Nth East.

Heaven on a stick.

monday's dawn

I was 10 mins too late to get the real big fire red that flooded the sky this morning. I'll have to start getting up at 5am to get my butt to location on time from now on.

Mind you the colour in this shot is still pretty impressive. This shot is unaltered except for a curves adjustment and a slight sharpen. The colour is untouched.

And 20 mins later it looked like this. What a transformation!!

dawn of today and a day of threes.

You know how things happens in threes????

Today was one of those days.   At 6am on my way out to this morning's dawn shoot I hit a roo in the Toyota Courtesy Car (my Hilux is having a gearbox replacement).

I have always had a mantra regarding roos and cars on the road. ***me chanting - stay straight, don't swerve, stay straight, don't swerve***  Well I stayed straight and did not swerve to avoid hitting the roo. As a result I did clip it with the right hand side of the bumper bar. Much better that then rolling the car after an uncontrolled swerve.  The headlights are fine, the wheel cavity is fine and it's still drivable.

Unfortunately, at 6am when I hit the roo, I was nowhere near where I had planned to be for the dawn of today. But as it turned out I was at the very beginning of the lake system near where I live. So after clearing the road of debris, (no roo to be found), I locked up and took this morning's PO shot.  (photographic orgasm).

Today found me down near Little Swamp photographing something that I've been looking at for ages (photos later) when I saw a car pull up next to the Courtesy Car and I watched someone walk around it. (I was about 1km away). The guy got back in his car and took off in a hurry towards the Prison.

I packed up at that point and left. While I was at the Church on Pobke Lane, Big Swamp, a Police Car pulled up the same time as my phone rang. On the phone was a Local Toyota Rep enquiring if I was ok. He just had the Police ring him regarding a report from Correctional Services about a damaged and abandoned Toyota Courtesy car near the Port Lincoln Prison. We ended up laughing about the whole misunderstanding and hung up on good terms.

The Policemen stepped out to enquire about the car and the report from Correctional Services. Again I explained the misunderstanding, we laughed and shook hands. One of the men even pointed out a tree that I hadn't noticed that would be a good photographic subject. He was right too.

I have a bunch of photos to work on over the next few days that I'm really excited about and memories of today I won't forget in a hurry.

I think I've had my run of three's for awhile. lol

sean all lit up

November and December is All Things Christmas at Scrap Therapy.

I'm writing a series of fortnightly tutorials with little tips and hints with the camera in the lead up to Christmas. All those little details that can easily be missed.

But most of all to play with the camera, and with the kids and to have fun with the lead up to the Festive Season.

My introduction to the tutorials is HERE  and the first tutorial is HERE.

I found a long string of 250 coloured LED lights in Kmart the other day, and Sean kindly offered (bribed with icecream lol) to model them before I put them on the tree.

I used a little LED torch to spot fill light on his face.

He had fun and that's what's important. :O)

wheat & barley on the backtrack

headed out on farm yesterday while we had awesome clouds in the sky. I wanted to wait until the barley (on right) was in sunlight, not shadow, but the clouds were moving away (right of frame) so I just had to get them while they were there.

always stay close

Over at e2c there's a Kraft challenge atm. Here.
I couldn't find just the right colour of yellowy green ribbon that I really wanted, to be true to the colour scheme, so I shifted to the orange hues. I loved the idea of the Kraft, the crispness of white with a subtle orange tones.
I just LOVE the new chicken wire template from Crafter's Workshop. So many ways to use it!!! White paint with this LO.

canola row twilight

I commandeered my husband's ute on Monday night to go out on the canola stubble so I could set up the tripod on the tray of the ute to get high enough for the shot I wanted to get.

got em!!  :O)
