today

This LO took me aaagggeeesss to get this one done. Not me at all. The scrappy juices just aren't free flowing at the moment :(
I'm still finding creative solace in the camera and with the creating Silhouette Cameo files.  I feel the scrappy itch getting stronger tho.

every child needs a pet

Annie and Max.

He's 3.5 years old now. She cares for him all by herself, other than the muscle help of sliding out the bottom of his hutch once a week to clean it. She's in total control. Not only has she learnt responsibility,  she has learnt of consideration eg. bringing him to his inside box on really hot days before she goes to school. She has learnt about welfare eg. cleaning his hutch once a week, fresh food and clean water every day. And above all she has learnt the love of animals.

We love him too. He comes with us to our Summer holidays each year to the Coast. We are fortunate enough that the apartment owners know us to allow us bring his hutch and he lives in the shade on the lawn at the beach. He even spends a bit of time on the beach. He even features on one of the stick family stickers on the back of my hilux. He's very much a part of the family.

Australia on Facebook

I posted this photo (with permission from the parent) to the Australia Facebook wall on Monday 22.10.12. Australia is a photography/tourism wall that I've been aspiring to break onto for quite some time.

At last.

On Wednesday 24.10.12 they showcased it as a photo on its own rather than in a group of of other images. In other words Australia gave it top billing for a couple of days.   Yeharrrrrr!

In the first 32 minutes of it being posted it had gone VIRAL!!!!!!!!!   7349 likers, 190 comments and 946 shares. That's massive traffic.

By lunch (SA time) it had 19 751 likers, 456 comments and 2463 shares. Not a bad morning's effort   ;-p

In 13 hours it had jumped to  32 419 likers, 668 comments and 4033 shares.  That's INSANE!!

By Friday evening, things have settled a bit and its at 39 545 likers, 861 comments and 5385 shares.

And I've had increased traffic back to my Tiff Firth Photography wall due to all this exposure. My 'likers' have dramatically increased with many overseas people choosing to 'like' my wall and many images on it.

On the same Wednesday there was a post by Eyre Peninsula Australia's Seafood Frontier (run by the Regional Development Australia and tied to South Australia Tourism Commission) that said, and I quote

"I swear we have some of the most talented local photographers in Australia here on the Eyre Peninsula helping us to see our region with new eyes! Thanks to our regular contributors Robert Lang PhotographyJohn White PhotosTiff Firth Photography and all those sharing photos of Eyre Peninsula Australia's Seafood Frontier across the world. If you haven't checked out their work you're missing out!"

It's all very flattering, but really its so unfathomable I can't/don't believe it. After all, nothing has changed for me. I still shoot what I want, where I want. I'm not beholden to anyone or any contracts. I do have a few projects on the go, and they are by my choice.

I'm loving riding this wave and have no idea where I'll end up with it, but whooo hooooo, it sure feels good.

scrap 365

Sean's gone global.

I received my complimentary copy of the latest (November 2012) Scrap 365 Magazine with Sean's LO in it. This is the second overseas magazine I've been published in. Still feels a bit surreal.

He's a bit proud of it too!!!!!!  Guess what morning talk will be at School tomorrow hahahaha.

nervously.....

It's been a long process (mainly to my procrastinating) but I've nearly completed my Level One Womens Artistic Gymnastics Coaching Accreditation. I was critiqued on my coaching skills tonight at Gym which I think went ok. Now all the paper work needs to be sent to Adelaide for evaluation.

Fingers crossed.

ra'na dance concert

last night was the Ra'Na Dance Concert that the kids had been working towards all year.

I'm damn sure I was never meant to be a hairdresser as I wrestled with Annie's hair into a high ponytail. Something so damn simple can be so damn frustrating!! And as I disagree with young girls wearing makeup, the compulsory blue eye shadow and red lipstick was only done lightly. Sean on the other hand was a piece of cake to get ready. A bit of Hair Wax in those golden locks and he was done!!

obligatory pre concert shot  ;-)

He smiled all night. He was so confident on the stage, and, well, I think he shined. (Being his Mum I can say that)  (image posted with permission)

busting a move

Loved her hair and the way it moved...... BIG time!!

lots of poise and confidence   (other dancers intentionally blurred)

trinity haven, milky way and southern aurora

Saturday night at the e2c mini retreat at Trinity Haven, I had word that there was another Aurora happening on the Southern horizon. And rating higher on the scale than the last one.

So I grabbed Denise and Mel and with our cameras, we headed about 1km away from the Retreat to minimize light pollution and set up our cameras to see what we could see.

With a little light painting by Mel, this is what we came up with.

The red glow on the left is the Aurora Australis and the foreground is the crisp white sands of Trinity Haven.

So glad we left the Retreat for an hour or so, to see this, get some fresh air and come back inside really fired up. I was getting stale from being inside a lot.

enjoy.

e2c timelapse

I had a bit of a project over the retreat weekend.

On Saturday I quietly placed the camera on the tripod in different places around the room to shoot one shot every 5 seconds to pull together a time lapse of the Retreat.

Hey Jude seemed to the theme song over the weekend so I used that with the video.

Enjoy.

***edit to add***  access changed from public to private upon request.

big red fella

My favourite LO created at the e2c mini retreat last weekend.

I've been away from my scrap desk for the last 3 months as this when my photography commitments really step up. So for most of the LO's I created at the retreat I struggled to find the groove. This one, not so much.

:O)

aurora australis

On Monday night while you were either on the couch watching telly, or already in bed, I was running around in my pjamas with a torch in my hand to capture the Aurora and the Milky Way. This is 8 fisheye images stitched together with each object painted with light in every frame. With 30 seconds for  each frame, there was a lot of mad sprinting to get them all done and a lot of puffing after.

Worth it tho. The Aurora is the red glow on the horizon. I'm not sure what the yellow light is. Wangary perhaps. Not Edillile or the Port Lincoln glow. I they were further to the south.

Painting the wheat with light and using a hanky as a filter. Edillilie lights to the left of frame.

Aurora Australis and the Southern tip of the Milky Way with Agricultural Field Bin painted with light.

Glen Forest Tourist Park

Amy and I took our kids to the Glen Forest Tourist Park today. It was a warm today but the gentle breeze really took the edge off the unseasonably warm day. Annie and Sean really wanted to play Putt Putt and my goal was to photograph the albino white joey Kangaroo.

With bags of seed in hand the kids first went to the aviary and took a bit of shine to the Rainbow Lorikeets.

A gentle pat and play with the roos was next on the agenda so I was able to capture what I was after. He's very cute. He had his eyes shut most of the time when he was in the sun and I'm wondering if he finds it too bright for his lack of pigmentation, including his eyes.

Then the tournament was on!!!!!  Needless to say that no course records were broken, but a whole lot of fun was had.

The stallion Donkey was a bit of a fave for Sean. The donkey was such a schmoooo and really loved a cuddle and company.

The obligatory tourist photo... she had to jump to get her head in the hole. ;o)

And this little fella was a bit of heart stealer. And Mum was VERY relaxed about her little joey being out and about with us. I do have this amazingly cute photo of Little G and the joey, but I won't show it as I haven't asked permission too.

It's an awesome place there with bundles of little baby animals atm....... such a treat.

fisheries

What have we been up to for school holidays.

Pyjama mornings, movies at the theater, fishing, visiting, late nights, Yallunda Flat Show, Kym's 2 day shoot at his Ungarra Club, and a night out shooting for me.

I headed down to Fisheries with a couple of local camera buffs in tow to catch up with some of the crew from the Camera Club.

Late afternoon was a delight down there.

I had two agendas in mind. The full moon rising across the wet sand...... nearly had a complete staircase to the moon......

.... and those elusive light orbs that tend to only come out under the full moon ... I found this one tucked in close to Right Point cliffs....

... and then angry pumpkin fireballs let rip. They were sensational to capture.

my fave

Was worth the wet socks, (2 pairs of them), wet jeans and being in the water till 10pm!!!  A whole lot of laughing to be had. Loved it.
